Bob Ransford, Senior Consultant
Bob Ransford is a communicator and an urban designer. He specializes in urban issues and in dealing with complicated urban development and land-use challenges involving the public, governments and other stakeholders.
He has over 25 years experience in business and public relations. He's demonstrated the benefits of effective communications where it counts and where it can be measured - on the bottom line. He is experienced in planning, implementing and directing all forms of public consultation, with a special expertise in dynamic planning a holistic, collaborative, transformative planning process for physical design that fosters an environment of trust, reduces re-work and facilitates implementation.
Ransford worked in the real estate industry for 12 years in real estate development, finance and investments. He was primarily in charge of government relations and land entitlement, listing extensively with municipal and senior governments in
British Columbia, Oregon and Washington.
He has a Certificate in Urban Design from
Simon Fraser University and he completed the Charrette Planner’s Program at
Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Ransford has spoken at numerous conferences and symposia on urban development and real estate matters and he writes a regular column in the
Vancouver Sun newspaper on housing, urban design and real estate development issues. He is a long-time director of the Urban Development Institute of Canada-Pacific Region, a director on the Board of Smart Growth BC and is involved in numerous community service organizations. He is a member of the National Charrette Institute and the Congress for the New Urbanism.
During the 1980s, Ransford held a number of senior positions as an advisor to politicians in the federal and provincial governments. He worked on Parliament Hill in
Ottawa
and in the Office of the Premier of the Province of British Columbia.
Ransford has also worked as a journalist in radio and community newspapers.
Active as a volunteer strategist in politics at the national, provincial and municipal levels, Ransford has assisted with communications and strategy in more than 50 election campaigns. In 2002, Bob Ransford was a recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the Queen's Golden Jubilee, awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions to their fellow citizens, their community and
Canada.
