2011 Trendspotting for the NEXT DECADE.
By: Richard Laermer
I’m grinning about this book. And about Laermer’s book titled: Punk Marketing. I just about reviewed that book – but got hung up on another book. But when 2011 sailed onto my desk, I just had to review it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah – 2011 is edgy, it’s cocky, it’s in your face, it’s… it’s … dare I say it? Just a little bit… audacious! I’m still grinning. I got a real whack in the face from Laermer. And a real kick in the ass. 2011 is a great book.
It’s readable. It delivers bullet chapters – fast, short, readable, memorable. Very video in its print orientation. He tells me fast, short, personal stories.
Some may not like his approach. Some buttoned-down folks might think Laermer is a little full of himself. So what? He’s not afraid to kick his own ass too.
Remember Marshall McLuhan’s approach to communications? Have you read Seth Godin? How about Edward de Bono? Laermer takes these very readable authors, synthesizes them, and develops his own machine-gun style theories and advice on… (getting to the point, finally) spotting evolving trends that are coming at us in a flurry, a blizzard, an unending deluge of fads, gimmicks, noise about new policies, new products, new politics, new services, new societies, newbloodyeverything!
If I were writing like Laermer, I’d say this book helps you sort through the crap to identify trends that can help you be a better communicator – that can help you devise business, communications, organizational strategies that will deal with the “new world”.
Thanks Richard. This book is relevant with a capital “R”.
